I tell my clients that the three most important parts of the horoscope are the Sum Sign, the Moon Sign and the Rising sign. Most of them know about the Sun and Moon digns, but very few know about the Rising Sign.
The Rising Sign is also referred to as the Ascendant is the zodiac sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the time of your birth. If you know the exact time you were born the Rising Sign can be calculated to the exact degree of the sign. There is something in astrology that is called the ecliptic. It can be a hard to understand. It basically is an imaginary circle in the sky with the 12 signs of the zodiac on either side of it. This circle also happens to be the plane of the Earth’s orbit around the Sun. Because of the rotation of the earth all of the 12 signs rise and set. Consequently a different sign appears on the horizon every two hours. In a 24 hour period all 12 signs of the zodiac rise and set.
This is why it is called a Rising Sign. It’s the sign that was ascending on the horizon at the time of birth. Astrologers believe that the Ascendant is the mask that one wears in public. It’s the way an individual packages or advertises themselves. Because of this, it usually is the first impression that a person makes on others. The Rising Sign is expressed in one’s image, style and mannerisms. The Rising Sign can be considered your auto-pilot. It tells a lot about how a person responds to the environment along with how a person guides themselves through their day to day activities.
